Four Christmas activities for kids in home

Image
A lot of my kids parents asked me what to do for them during Christmas vacation. Well I tried to find some easy to make but interesting and educational activities for your toddler at home. Number one activity: Make your sensory bin In this sensory bin I used snow which I made it from 1/2 cup shampoo and 3 cups of baking soda. When the kids saw it they got thrilled! Then I put stars from felt, Pom Pom and wood bore. Number two activity: Drawing on the sand I made cards with shapes and the kids drew them on the sand with Christmas candy cane! They loved it!! They focused on it more than 15’! Number three activity: Maths I cut Christmas Trees and I wrote on cards numbers (1-5 for my kids).  The kids should put as many stars on the tree as the number says. Number four activity: Make your Christmas Craft Tree  On a cardboard I drew a Christmas tree and the kids glue green, brown and red papers. Then they glue the tree on a blue card...

My Christmas Bulletin Board

Image
Christmas are the most amazing time of the year! I love the trees which are decorated with beautiful ornaments and lights. I like the Christmas songs, the love and happy feeling of all people. The kids are excited about Christmas and the parents are bright from their children’s happiness. So our classroom cannot be unaffected by the Christmas spirit. This year I wanted something different to decorate my classroom. So I concluded in these two bulletin boards which I believe that they are very easy to make. I hope that they will inspire you and will help you to make brilliant things!!!

Winter is coming...

Image
Due to the changes of the weather we discuss about winter in the classroom. A child asked me “Miss what are the colors of winter?”. This gave us an opportunity to go out in the nearest park, to notice the sky,the tree, the nature. When we returned I put from YouTube  “The Winter” of Vivaldi  and I let children move and dance like they wanted and felt from the walking. Then the kids searched in google  photos about winter and winter colors. The children voted their best colors. After they created per two students the winter craft using the winter watercolors. Toddlers wanted snow in their craft so they added salt! We let the crafts dry and winter came! Let’s discover the word winter and it’s letters! In this activity the toddlers walking and dancing like a snowflake with the song “The walz of snowflake” of Tchaikovsky . Then the kids put the letters in the correct order so as to make the word winter. Winter is...

Reindeer Handprint Crafts

Image
I love kids’ handprints crafts because make kids stand alone without needing my help. The Christmas handprint Craft which my students created was a reindeer. This craft is similar to Christmas Tree Craft which you can find it here . In the beginning the toddlers painted their hands with brown tempera and they left their handprint on the white cardboard. After the kids put their fingers in red and green tempera and left their fingerprint as background. Kids glue the red nose from cardboard and the eyes. At the end the kids decorated reindeer’s horns! Christmas Ornament Craft

Image
We are going to decorate our classroom’ s Christmas Tree the next week so kids decided to make their own ornaments. Their favorite handmade Christmas ornament is the following. To make this I cut bottle corks (each one in three pieces). The kids have been divided in two groups. The first group painted the corks with light green tempera whereas the other with dark green. When the last group finished I sprinkle the corks with green dust. Just the corks dried kids glue one light green cork and one dark green cork together alternate in the shape of circle. Finally I glue a red bow at the middle of the Christmas Wreath and a rope just behind the bow! We are looking forward to decorating our Christmas Tree!!!

COLORS!!!

Image
The colors are in the daily curriculum of preschool education. My kids usually ask me “What color is this?, Is this the same color?” So I started searching an educational game that the kids can find the same color.  Searching in Pinterest and Facebook I ended up to the next game of color: the palette of painter. In this game the children should open and put the painted worms on the correct color. I cut brown sparkling cardboard in the shape of the palette and all the colors of sparkling cardboard in the shape of circle. Then I adhere the circles on the palette with glue. Finally I painted each worm with a different color! Well... we’re ready! Let’s play!!    Here’s a video from my kids playing:

CHRISTMAS TREE CRAFT

Image
Christmas are coming! So I am starting preparing crafts for kids. The first Christmas craft which my children wanted to create was a Christmas tree . Firstly the kids   painted their hands with green tempera and left their handprint on the white cardboard. When the tempera dried, the kids put in the red and yellow tempera their finger so as to make the Christmas lights of the tree.   Then I joined the lights with a black marker, I draw the tree trunk with a brown marker and finally with the glitter glue I created the star !! PLANT GROWTH

Image
I believe that the science activity from the previous article needs a little more explanation. A great way of   constructing the knowledge of kids is the constructivism. What is it? The child discovers the knowledge whereas the role of the teacher (or parent) is supportive. The main goal of the following activities is to help kids develop abilities and scientific knowledge regarding the natural environment. Phase1: Orientation and Promotion of ideas Firstly at the observation center you may present to your kids images that plants flowers and trees are shown. What do plants need to grow? Which is the food of plants? Why the leaves are green? You let the kids think the questions individually and may give them the following worksheet. (I found the flower here to make the worksheet) After you may gather the children's work and discuss all together the answers without telling them the right answer. You may hang the worksheets on the bulletin ...

KIDS AND THE BEANSTALK

Image
While I was walking yesterday, I found this huge beanstalk which touched the clouds and just below it a young man. His name was Jack and he wanted to climb on the beanstalk. He suggested me wait until he returned. So I was waiting and waiting and waiting when a letter fell on my head: Here starts the first activity. At this point you start " hiking " with your kids. You stretch your body and hands upside down while you are on your toes. You with your toddlers go from branch to branch stretching a little more your body. You may need to take great steps (like a giant) so as to pass over a branch or to jamb (like a rabbit) so as to pass over a huge bean or even to go down on the ground (like a snake) to pass over some leaves. During these exercises you may listen the song of Grieg "In the hall of the mountain king" and as the song becomes faster you may do the exercises more quickly.  Some point we arrived at a broken branch. To pass ove...

We are the world...

Image
During the previous week we developed the peace and war theme in the classroom. Firstly I presented two photos that show people in peace and in war.         What do we see in the first photo?     What are the kids doing?     What's the similarity among kids?     Why do they hold their hands?     What's the name of the bird in the middle? What does it symbolize?   What do you see in the second photo?   What are the kids doing?   What are they wearing?   What's the similarity among kids?   How do they feel?     In which of the two states do the kids want to be? They listened two music tracks and they tried to recognize which song is for peace and which for war. The first song which represented the peace was the walz of sleeping beauty of Tchaikovsky and the second was the song of Prokofiev: Dance of   knights which rh...
