KIDS AND THE BEANSTALK
While I was walking yesterday, I found this huge
beanstalk which touched the clouds and just below it a young man.
His name was Jack and he wanted to climb on the
beanstalk. He suggested me wait until he returned. So I was waiting and waiting
and waiting when a letter fell on my head:
Here starts the first activity. At this point you start "hiking" with your kids. You
stretch your body and hands upside down while you are on your toes. You with your toddlers go from
branch to branch stretching a little more your body. You may need to take great steps (like a giant) so as to pass over a
branch or to jamb (like a rabbit) so as to
pass over a huge bean or even to go down on the
ground (like a snake) to pass over some leaves. During these exercises
you may listen the song of Grieg
"In the hall of the mountain king" and
as the song becomes faster you may do the exercises more quickly.
Some point we
arrived at a broken branch. To pass over we should complete the circle with beans. You may cut a cardboard in a parallelogram with the
scissors. After you can write a number and you can plan circles as long as the
number says. In these circles the child should put the correct number of the
beans.
Then you may continue hiking until you arrived on the
colorful branch where all the beans had a different color. Firstly you may paint with your kids the beans which color you
want. You may put the watercolor and the beans in a bag and then you may shake
it. After you should get them out of the bag and let them dry.
We should continue our journey but we can't! Because
some beans left from their normal color so we should put them to their correct
place to continue climbing. When the beans dry, the kids should put them in the
appropriate jar depending on the color.
Yes! We did it! We found Jack! He had stuck on a red bean.
Let's get off the beanstalk! Just we arrived at the ground, Jack gave me some magic
beans so as to plant them! Your kids may put the beans into an utensil, then
may cover them with cotton and may add some water. You may put an utensil with
planted beans close to the window, whereas another you can hide it in a
cupboard without seeing it the sun. Both of utensils should be watered every
day. The result may surprise you and kids!
Finally you may make a seed sensory bin. Kids will
love it! In the bin I put: peas, giant legumes, lentil, split peas,
corns, a small shovel and small plastic
containers.
HAVE FUN!!
